Katie Trick is a Welsh Artist working in South Wales.
Her paintings of gardens in manicured suburbia are rooted in our shared cultural knowledge, each picture tantalising our memory, living in that mind space we believe is ours but in truth belongs in a history of film imagery that we have re-appropriated and made our own.
These paintings trick us into believing our memory is truthful and honest despite us knowing that our inner eye conjures up pictures that were born elsewhere. Like a magpie we collect images to build a past, our history intertwined with a collective memory drawn from cinema, television, photography and advertising. Our interior vision a vast landscape of appropriation, a cabinet of curiosities that we use to construct a historical narrative that makes sense to our present selves.
